From Inventor to Entrepreneur: Spencer Boerup’s Magnetic Speed Light Modifiers

Inspired by his newborn’s plastic pacifiers, Spencer Boerup built the MagMog durable light modifiers and gels from silicone rubber to replace the flash gels that would crinkle in his gear bag.

Like many inventions, the MagMod system was born of necessity. Wedding photographer Spencer Boerup was often using gels on his flashes to balance them with the ambient light in, for example, a reception hall. “They were crinkled because they’d been in my bag,” he recalls.
