Follow your Dream

David J. Carol

I have a good friend that I’ve known since childhood. I use his story as an example of what it means to follow your dream. He's a smart, talented, creative and determined  guy. He plays guitar, paints, draws and is very funny (I'm funnier though). He was fully committed to follow his dream. What his dream was doesn't matter. Its something that you don't get with a college degree...

Like anything in the arts, being a photographer, an actor, musician, writer, etc, its something you must "create". So here's the point to the story...He did what he had to do to get the money and make it happen. This very intelligent college graduate took a job at McDonald's and worked at low level jobs in malls to make ends meet. He didn't want to, but he had to. Nobody was handing him a free ride. He did these jobs so he could make his dream come true. They did and he is a "star" in his field and very well respected. Some of us have chosen a unique vocation in our lives...The path may not have a map or a set of guidelines of how to obtain it. Go for it, don't give up, ever...My friend went for it and GOT IT! He started with nothing and he now has everything... His everything! I can’t even imagine what it would be like to turn 50, 60 or 70 and look back thinking what if...I'll never have to know how that feels and neither will my friend.
