I grew up Jewish in a suburb outside of New York City and it seemed to me that most of the academically inclined nice Jewish kids wanted to be Doctors, Lawyers and Accountants. Back then I had no idea who Irving Penn, Brassai, Robert Frank, Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, Elliott Erwitt, Lee Friedlander, Weegee, Helen Levitt, Man Ray, Andre Kertesz, Garry Winogrand, William Klein, Paul Strand, Robert Capa, Philippe Halsman, Louis Faurer, Aaron Siskind, David Seymour, Lisette Model, Joel Meyerowitz, Arnold Newman, Bruce Davidson and Alfred Stieglitz were. I had no idea I was going into a Jewish profession. Kinda funny...
