Dear Right Moves,
I want specifics. What is the magic sentence that will get me a job with a great photographer, other than “I’ll work for FREE,” which I will not.
Standing My Ground Without A Job, Portland, Maine
Dear Standing My Ground,
I’m not making guarantees, but I think if you said, “My father is a famous art director and my mother is a powerful art buyer and I think they’d both be interested in your work,” that might get his attention. It’s got to be the truth, of course. If it is the truth, send an email and wait for the magic to happen.
By the way, I do have to take issue with your concept of ‘working for free’ for a great photographer. You are extending your education for FREE. Re-evaluate your mindset on this one. If you have a chance to learn for FREE from a photographer you admire, GRAB it.
