Dear Right Moves,

What is some of the best advice you ever heard for young photographers other than “work hard.” If I hear “work hard” again, I swear I’ll lose it! That advice is completely unhelpful.

Agitated In Spokane, Annabelle

Dear Annabelle,

This advice is 100% GUARANTEED helpful. Anyone with aspirations of being a photographer MUST understand and be immersed in the history of photography and the photographers who have gone before them. When you study famous photographers, you learn how these master photographers use light and composition.  Why does one photographer shoot only in black and white while another is predominantly in color? What were the decisive moments in their careers? What mistakes did they make along the way that you might want to avoid? Study the history of photography and their stories will charge yours.
