I love words in photographs. Not just words alone, but words or signs that enhance the picture. Almost all of my photos with words would probably work without them (though, probably not as well...) When done correctly it feels to me like I'm giving the viewer a little wink or nod.  I usually lean towards humor or absurdity, but you can use signs or words in photos in many different ways. I think the key is not to be obvious. The words should not be the only "important" part of the photograph, but more of a seasoning. Try it and see if it works for you...
