Like many successful people, Gage Thompson didn’t wait for work to come to him—he sought it out. Along with taking his own photos of the skateboarding culture in Utah, he’s also a trusted first assistant. When he approached Mike Tittel, a lifestyle and sports photographer, about working as his assistant, Thompson sent him not only a resume, but also a time when he would call to follow-up. Tittel was so impressed by Thompson’s professionalism that he hired him. On a recent shoot with Tittel, Thompson took it upon himself to learn a lot of unfamiliar equipment so that he would be ready for every shot. But Thompson is not all work. “We have a lot of fun on set,” Tittel says. “He has a great sense of humor.”
