Matt Propert first met Uliana Bazar while he was working on assignment in Miami for National Geographic; she approached him, offering to help out with his shoots, expressing genuine interest in travel photography. Bazar joined Propert for a 2.5-month shoot, and she subsequently assisted him on a three-month shoot in Italy as well as another three-month shoot in the Caribbean Islands. “These sound like dream assignments, and they were, but the scheduling and logistics were unbelievable,” Propert says. “Mind-bending travel nights were stacked on top of 14-hour shoots. She stuck it out the entire way with zero complaint, all the while learning and shooting her own impressive portfolio.”
