Meiko Takechi Arquillos has plenty of nice things to say about Damon Casarez’s work as an assistant—but what impresses her most is his personal work. “He has a great eye,” she says. “I love his photography.” Arquillos isn’t the only one who’s noticed Casarez’s vision. Increasingly, publications like Los Angeles Magazine and Bloomberg Businessweek have hired him to shoot assignments on topics such as a gingerbread house factory in Southern California and the Westfield takeover of malls in Los Angeles.
