Mike Disfarmer, resident studio photographer in Heber Springs, Arkansas, photographed people during the Great Depression and World War ll, using the simple black backdrop that inspired Jason Florio.

Every supporter who donated money to help fund Jason Florio’s expedition around The Gambia received one of the portraits he shot along the way.
