On April 8, 1961, the MV Dara, a Dubai-based passenger liner, was destroyed at sea by an internal explosion. Engulfed in flames, the British-India Steam Navigation Company vessel eventually sank off the coast of Dubai, and 238 of the 819 people aboard perished.
