Ricoh announced today that it is now shipping a new 35mm f/3.5 lens for its medium format cameras (film and digital).

The HD PENTAX-D FA645 35mm F3.5AL[IF] lens features new optical elements with Pentax HD coating. It offers a 27.5mm equivalent focal length on the 645D and Z cameras with a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters and a maximum magnification of 0.25X.

An inner-focus mechanism keeps the lens’s total length the same during focusing. The lens is built using high-grade glass-molded aspherical element with a high-refractive index, low-dispersion glass element, plus a hybrid aspherical element that, according to Ricoh, effectively minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations. It stops down to f/32 and delivers a rounded aperture from f/3.5 through f/7.1.

The lens is available now for $1,600.
