Jean-Claude Lozouet, a former photographer and founder of the Rio
De Janeiro office of The Image Bank, was among the passengers
aboard
Air France Flight 447, which crashed in the Atlantic Ocean
after taking off from Rio on June 1. Gilles Devicq, a
longtime colleague and a friend of the Lozouet family, confirmed
the news. Recovery operations continue, but all 228
passengers and crew on the flight are presumed dead.
Lozouet started his career in France as a travel photographer
in the 1970s, and then opened the Triskel production company,
Devicq says. Lozouet was one of the first international licensees
for The Image Bank, opening a TIB office in Rio De Janeiro. He
eventually opened another TIB office in Sao Paulo.
"Jean-Claude was in the business for a long time and was a lovely
man," says Leslie Hughes, former SVP Worldwide Sales at The Image
Bank, and now chef executive at Equidyne Ventures. "He did a lot to
educate people in Brazil and throughout South America not only on
stock photography but the value and importance of copyright."
After TIB was bought by Getty Images in 1999, Devicq says, Lozouet
became president of the French Chamber of Commerce in Brazil and
also served as director of the French Theater in Rio, a
collaboration with the Alliance Francaise.
Lozouet is survived by his wife, Ivone, and two sons, Louis
and Philippe.
