A Big October for New York Photo Events

New York is preparing for a busy October of photo events, made bigger this year with the addition of a big stock photography convention.

Fall Photo Week kicks off Monday October 20 with the Lucie Awards and continues with the annual PhotoPlus Conference and Expo from October 23 to 25. That will be followed by the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA) International Conference and picturehouse trade show.

The month also promises to be packed with photo art auctions, gallery shows and many peripheral meetings and parties. Here’s an abbreviated run-down of the month’s events.

- Monday, October 13 and Tuesday, October 14:
Christie’s host three photo auctions: contemporary photographs, photographs by William Eggleston, and photographs.

- Wednesday, October 15 and Thursday, October 16:
Sotheby’s hosts an auction of photographs.

- Thursday, October 16:
Phillips de Pury & Company hosts an auction of photographs, including photographs from the collection of Lisa Lyon.

- Monday, October 20:
The 6th Annual Lucie Awards. A reception starts at 6 p.m. and the award ceremony begins at 7 at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Tickets are available starting at $25. Several Lucie-related talks and events are scheduled for the weekend before the awards. Information is on the Lucie Awards web site.

- Tuesday, October 21:
Swann Galleries hosts an auction of 19th and 20th century photographs.

- Thursday, October 23 to Saturday, October 25:
PDN’s PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo. The annual event, featuring three days packed with seminars and a huge trade show floor showcasing hundreds of equipment makers and photography services, returns to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The event kicks of the evening of Wednesday, October 22 with an invitation-only press preview. Complete details are online here.

- Wednesday, October 22:
Aperture Foundation 2008 benefit and art auction at Chelsea Piers, Pier 60. Aperture is hosting several parties and signings throughout the month. Details online here.

- Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26:
Picture Archive Council of America (PACA) International Conference. Stock industry professionals will gather for their annual conference at the New York Marriott Downtown.

- Wednesday, October 29:
picturehouse New York. The trade show and networking event for stock image sellers will take place at the Altman Building, 135 W. 18th St.
