FotoDC, Washington’s only nonprofit 501©(3) dedicated to serving photographers and photography lovers, will present its 5th Anniversary FotoWeekDC Festival to be held across the Washington, DC region from November 9 – 18, 2012. Founded with the inaugural Festival in 2008, FotoWeekDC has evolved and is now presented by FotoDC, a thriving nonprofit with year-round programming beginning in 2011.
The 5th Annual FotoWeekDC will present the very best in fine art photography and photojournalism. In addition to a selection of outstanding exhibitions, the Festival includes seminars, lectures, workshops, portfolio reviews, photo book displays, special events, and receptions.
Following are highlights of the 5th Annual festival, November 9-18:
-FotoWeekCentral – FotoWeekCentral, the focal hub of the Festival, will be located at The Warner, a spectacular office building, located at 1299 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, in Downtown, DC. World-class work to be presented at Central includes: 101 Photos for Press Freedom - Reporters Without Borders/Magnum Photo Agency, Global Goods/Local Costs - Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Come Together - Curated by Alison Zavos and Amanda Gorence, Looking at the Land - Curated by Andy Adams and Flak Photo, and the 2012 FotoDC International Awards Competition winners, among others.
-FotoWeekEDU - FotoWeekDC and the Goethe-Institut Washington partner to launch an all-new educational program. FotoWeekEDU @ Goethe will offer both professional and amateur photographers direct, insider access to insight and advice from the top professionals in photography through a week of day-long seminar presentations, a day of in-depth portfolio reviews, evening “meet and mingle” receptions, and other opportunities to learn from and be inspired by experts in the field. Full-day seminar presenters include photography luminaries Ed Kashi, Brian Storm, Tom Mangelsen and Mary Virginia Swanson presenting on such topics as documentary storytelling, multimedia, nature photography and book-making and marketing. Also at the EDU location, FotoWeekDC portfolio reviews will provide photographers at all levels the opportunity to have their work reviewed by a distinguished lineup of professionals. Portfolio reviewers Peter Krogh, Daniel Milnor, Jayme McLellan, Christopher Addison and other experts will offer frank appraisals, valuable business insights and key advice on all aspects of photographic work.
-FotoDC Exclusive Hotel Packages - The new partnership with Destination DC, the official tourism corporation for Washington, DC, will offer hotel packages starting at $94.99 per night for the duration of FotoWeekDC (November 9-18, 2012). The ten participating hotels gift each room occupant with an extra incentive to explore the city: a $10 Metro SmarTrip card. -FotoPage and FotoPartner - New and updated web modules offer individual photographers and local partners exposure on the greatly expanded FotoDC.org Web site. From submissions on FotoPage, curators selected ten Washington-area photographers to participate in the second annual Uncover/Discover exhibition, which will also be shown during FotoWeekDC.
