 Art Start Family Portraiture Project

High-profile portrait photographers as Tom McKenzie and David Johnson are using their portraiture to help celebrate the strength and unity of New York City’s homeless families through Art Start’s Family Portrait Project.

Grappling with record rates of homelessness, Art Start’s Family Portrait Project uses family portraits to shift the focus on homeless families by showing their unity in difficult times. Through portraiture, creative workshops, and editorial writing, Art Start seeks to inspire compassion and respect for the resiliency of the human spirit. Approximately fifty New York City families  are profiled in the project  with participation from photographers: Tom McKenzie, David Johnson, as Brian Bloom, Natalie Brasington, Ty Cole, Andrew Eccles, Jason Goodrich, Michael Granacki, Heidi Gutman, David Lang, Fletcher, Lawrence  Eric Ogden, Martin Schoeller, Bryan Shih, Zachary Maxwell Stertz, Jim Wright, and Peter Yang.
