Greta Rybus Creates a Human Rights Story about Rising Sea Levels, Extreme Weather

Greta Rybus’s project started at an artists’ residency in Senegal. Her original goal was not an environmental story, but in talking to residents, she says, “climate change came up over and over again.”

Climate change is a challenging subject for photographers because it is difficult to depict visually, and because of public and media indifference here in the U.S. But the consequences of rising sea levels and extreme weather are real, and increasingly difficult to ignore.
