The camera rental company LensRentals.com is rolling out a new program that will let you purchase the gear you rent.
If the item is eligible, LensRental will give you a price based on the age of gear. If you’re currently renting it, you can get 100 percent of your rental fees discounted from the purchase price for the first seven days. After the seven day window, you’ll get 30 percent of your rental fees deducted from the purchase price.
The company claims that “almost all” of its equipment is now eligible for purchase in this manner, with exceptions being gear that is backordered or from suppliers who are slow to restock.
You’ll know equipment is eligible if you see a “this can be a keeper” logo next to its listing. If you don’t see said listing, hope isn’t lost–LensRental says it may just be slow in updating the particular product’s listing and that you should email inquiries to their support staff to see if you can get your hands on it.
The company says this is more a “try before you buy” and not a “rent to own” and you’ll have 14 days to change your mind and return your photographic gear.
