Sometimes white-colored versions of traditionally black-clad products work, and sometimes they don’t. In the case of the new white version of the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, the bright, clean makeover really works for us. Perhaps it’s something about the tiny SL1 itself, which is the smallest and lightest DSLR on the market, but the new egg-shell-like exterior gives the camera acute but tough look. Or it could be the slightly darker white, textured handgrip and knurled mode dial, which resemble things that might be used on board the International Space Station. And while the SL1, which is equipped with an18-megapixel, APS-C-sized CMOS sensor, probably won’t be your go-to camera for professional assignments, it’s small enough, light enough and fast enough for any sort of candid or casual work. Plus, you’ll probably get more compliments on this alabaster snapshooter than you would on the newest iPhone.
