Phase One is rolling out a new series of medium format camera backs in October.
The IQ4 backs will include the first with a 151-megapixel back-side illuminated medium format sensor, the IQ4 150MP. Phase is also adding the 101-megapixel IQ4 100MP Trichromatic (for more accurate color) and the 151-megapixel IQ4 150MP Achromatic (black and white). The new backs will work with the existing XF camera body. Unlike previous models, time-lapse and bracketing settings now operate independent of the camera body.
Beyond eye-popping resolution, all of the new backs feature Capture One image processing built-in, what Phase is calling its “Infinity Platform.” Thanks to that, the backs are able to process RAW files and have higher quality image previews. It also enables you to add Capture One Styles presets to photos in-camera, hit faster frame rates and enjoy a faster live view experience.
The IQ4 backs open up several new tethering options as well including wireless, USB-C and Ethernet. Both the Ethernet and USB-C ports can charge the back’s batteries and you can now connect external drives directly to the camera back for image storage, including NAS drives using an Ethernet cable.
Speaking of storage, the backs have dual card slots for SD and XQD cards.
Here’s a look at how the backs compare:
The new IQ4 backs ship in October and include an XF camera body and prism, a Blue Ring prime lens of your choice, 5-year warranty and 5-year uptime guarantee. The XF IQ4 150MP will sell for $51,990, the XF IQ4 100MP Trichromatic will cost $47,990 and the XF IQ4 150MP Achromatic Camera System will cost $54,990.
