Olympus is pitching its newest PEN mirrorless camera at users who want an easy on-ramp to more manual control over their images.
The PEN E-PL9 features a 3-inch tilting touch-screen and a menu that uses sliders to allow users to adjust parameters like brightness and contrast on their photos (before they shoot them). Scene mode previews will be visible on the touch screen as well, so users can get a live preview of what various scene modes will do to an image. Selecting the preview will activate the scene mode of choice.
The camera features a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor with a native ISO range of 200-6400 (expandable to 100-25,600). It has internal 3-axis image stabilization good for up to 3.5 stops of correction, per CIPA standards. You can record 4K movies (3840 x 2160) at 30p or full HD videos at 30p.
Olympus is adding a new Instant Film filter to its selection of Art filters on the camera to give your digital images an analog esthetic.
Additional features include:
* 121 contrast-detect autofocus points
* built-in flash
* sweep panorama mode
* Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi for a constant connection between camera and mobile device
* 1/4000 sec. mechanical shutter; 1/16,000 sec. electronic shutter
The PEN E-PL9 will be sold in white, black or brown. U.S. pricing and availability is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
