Blackmagic Design is releasing an update to its URSA Mini cinema camera that seeks to address the feedback it’s received from its first generation.
Like the earlier Mini, the Mini Pro will offer a 4.6K image sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range. Unlike the original, the Mini Pro will ship standard with an EF mount that can be removed by the user to be replaced with a PL or B4 mount. The Pro also offers built-in ND filters with IR compensation (2, 4 and 6 stop).
There are also more external controls and each control is redundant.
You’ll be able to record 4K/60p footage internally alongside 2K footage at 120p. The Mini Pro supports both the 12-bit CinemaDNG and 10-bit ProRes formats. ProRes recording is available at multiple quality levels including 4444 XQ. Footage (including CinemaDNG) is saved to a pair of CFast cards. You’ll also find a pair of SD cards for Ultra HD and HD recording.
The Mini Pro built from a magnesium alloy body and sports a 4-inch flip-out touch screen display and an external, backlit LCD that will read off timecode, shutter and lens settings, battery, recording status, and audio levels.
Rounding out the Mini Pro’s features:
- 1 12G-SDI output, 1 SDI input
- two XLR inputs with phantom power
- one 3.5mm headphone jack
- one 3G SDI output
- integrated stereo mic and mono speaker
- includes DaVinci Resolve Studio
The Mini Pro is available now for $5,995. You can buy an optional PL mount for $245 and a B4 mount for $385.
