Canon Sheds Light on Macro Photography with New Lens

April 6, 2017

Canon will ship a new lens in the summer that should help macro photographers shed a little light on their close-ups.

The EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM sports built-in LEDs on either side of the lens to illuminate your subjects. It can focus on objects as close as 0.43 feet.

The 56mm equivalent lens uses a hybrid image stabilization system good for up to four stops of shake reduction, per CIPA standards. It offers full-time manual focusing, movie servo AF and a seven-blade aperture.

The 35mm macro lens will ship in July for $350.

Canon also released a new PowerShot compact camera. The SX730HS uses a 20-megapixel CMOS sensor with a built-in 24-960mm equivalent lens.  It offers a 3-inch display, Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth.  You can record full HD movies up to 60p and use the self portrait mode for those all important selfies.

The SX730HS arrives in June for $400.
