Zeiss is adding a new wide angle lens to its Batis series of optics for Sony’s E-mount bodies.

At 18mm, the Batis 2/8/18  is the shortest full frame prime lens with autofocus, Zeiss says.

Like the other lenses in the Batis family, focusing distance information is viewable on an OLED display on the lens barrel. The aperture range on the 18mm is f/2.8-22 and the minimum focusing distance is 9.8 inches.

There’s a rubberized focus ring for when you wish to manually focus the lens and it’s weather-sealed. The Batis 18mm accepts 77mm filters and weighs 0.74 pounds.

It ships in May for $1,499 and is available for pre-order now. Zeiss has posted sample images taken with the new lens here.
