Object of Desire: Hive Lighting Bee 50-C

August 23, 2018

By Greg Scoblete

The 5-inch, 1.5-pound Bee is Hive Lighting’s smallest light to date. It has multiple mounting points for attaching it to drones, stands and other rigs. It has a Profoto mount on the front for adding light modifiers. The Bee uses Hive’s Omni-Color technology which employs red, amber, lime, cyan and sapphire LEDs to deliver “a more complete and even spectrum compared to traditional RGBW LEDs” the company says. You’ll enjoy a CRI of 98 and a TLCI of 97. The light is dimmable from 0-100 and saturation is also controllable over a 0-100 range. It supports a color temperature range from 1,650-8,000K with manual, DMX or smartphone remote control capabilities. Using the Hive SHOT iPhone app, you can control saturation, hue, output and color temperature via Bluetooth,  and also save settings as customizable scenes for quick recall. You can control up to eight Hive LEDs from the SHOT app. The Bee can deliver 1,760 foot candles at 2.5 feet (18,944 lux) or 440 fc/4,736 lux at 5 feet.
