Objects of Desire: Hipstamatic Smart Phone Case

We were skeptical at first but now can’t get enough of shooting photos with our iPhone 4 using fun, retro photography apps such as Hipstamatic and Instagram. If you’re like us—and we know you are because we follow many of you on Instagram—then this Hipstamatic case for the iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G is right up your alley.

Created jointly by case maker Agent18 and Hipstamatic software developer Synthetic, the new case line has a cute throwback look that will make your iPhone or iPod Touch resemble a plastic point-and-shoot camera from the 1980s. If you just asked: “Why the heck would I want that?” then you’re doubtless reading the wrong article.

There really is not much point to the case other than esthetics and the modicum of protection its plastic shell offers, but it’s pretty much the damned cutest thing we’ve seen hit the iPhone accessory line since those Leica M9 skins came out last year. Oh, and it also comes with a tripod adapter and a wrist lanyard so you can carry your iPhone around like a real pro photographer.

Cost: $39
