Objects of Desire: LaCie Little Big Disk with Thunderbolt Connectivity

Now that you’ve purchased a MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt (see above) you’re probably going to want a storage peripheral that supports that standard. First out of the gate is LaCie, which has unveiled the mobile Little Big Disk RAID with blazing fast Thunderbolt connectivity.

As a RAID, Little Big Disk (yeah, you try saying that three times quickly) doesn’t look drastically different than what’s come before it in LaCie’s line but its size, capacity and speed makes it great for photographers working in the field. The 1.5-pound Little Big Disk encloses two
250 gb Intel Series Solid-State Drives (SSD) in LaCie’s classic aluminum shell, which acts as a heat sink to keep it cool and prevent drive failures.

Meanwhile, since SSDs don’t have moving parts there’s less vibration and less power consumption. And, most importantly, that vaunted Thunderbolt connectivity between the LaCie Little Big Disk and a new MacBook Pro will mean you can transfer high-resolution images and HD video between the two at speeds that are absolutely scorching!

Cost: TBD (ships this summer)
