First designed for filmmakers, Lee Filters’ line of ProGlass IRND (Infrared Neutral Density) filters are now available for still photographers. They’re designed to fit Lee Filters’ Seven5, 100mm and SW150 filter holder systems in 75 x 90mm, 100 x 100mm and 150 x 150mm sizes, respectively. Forged from 2mm thick, optically flat glass, Lee’s ProGlass neutral density filters are sold in two-, three-, four-, six-, ten- and 15-stop versions to dampen that ambient light. They’re free of color casts and can block both infrared and ultraviolet light. Lee promises that blacks “are rendered truly black” with clean whites. The six-, ten- and 15-stop filters will ship with a foam seal that sits in the filter slot closest to the lens to prevent light leaks during long exposures. While the other models won’t include the foam seal, Lee recommends adding one anyway. All filters in the ProGlass IRND range can be used in conjunction with other filters, including neutral density grads and polarisers.
