Moab has long been one of my favorite fine-art photo paper companies and now they’ve added a neat trick to their media arsenal: A heavyweight paper that allows you to print on both sides of a sheet.

But why the heck would anyone want to do that? At first I thought the paper, called Moab Lasal Dual Semigloss 330, was designed for numbskulls like me who can never figure out which side to print on. While Lasal Dual Semigloss 330 has that added benefit, it’s really made for photographers who want to save on paper costs when printing a portfolio or album, allowing them to print different images on both sides and then insert the paper into a transparent sleeve.

It’s also an excellent paper for high-quality photo prints and the first double-sided, heavyweight fine-art paper I know of. Images I printed on both sides of Lasal Dual Semigloss 330 had a wide color gamut and dynamic range, and there was no bleed-through of ink on this relatively thick paper. D-Max was excellent in both my black-and-white and color photos, with significant detail showing up in the shadow areas of the prints.

Speaking of numbskulls: Are you one of those photographers who is so eager to get his or her grubby paws on a brand-new inkjet print when it spits out of the printer that you end up smudging the ink? The new coating on this Moab paper has a near-instant drying time so grab it from the printer as fast as you’d like and you won’t see any fingerprints. The coating is also designed to prevent scuffing, which is great for portfolios where photo prints are often removed and/or reordered.

The Bottom Line
Trying to save on your fine-art photo paper costs but still want high-quality results? Moab Lasal Dual Semigloss 330 will let you print stunning images on both sides of this heavyweight paper while its new coating helps dry the ink instantly to prevent immediate smudges from impatient photographers and ugly scuffing over time.

Pros: A high-quality, heavyweight fine-art photo paper that allows you to print on both sides of a sheet

If you make inkjet prints to hang in galleries, you probably won’t have much use for this paper

Price: $47 for 25-sheet pack of 11 x 14-inch paper (also available in 8.5 x 11, 13 x 19 and A4 packs);
