Google has a notoriously flighty track record when it comes products outside of its core business (fans of the defunct Google Reader will understand). Now Nik Software is the latest victim of Google’s inattention.
In March of 2016, Google made the software free. At the time, a Google spokesperson told us that the company planned to keep the software updated to ensure compatibility with host applications like Photoshop and operating systems.
That no longer appears to be the case.
Google has posted a notice atop the Nik Software page alerting users to the fact that the “Nik Collection is free and compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 through 10.10; Windows Vista, 7, 8; and Adobe Photoshop through CC 2015. We have no plans to update the Collection or add new features over time.”
