If your hard drives were groaning under the weight of 100-megapixel medium format images, just wait. Sony’s image sensor division has just released a new product roadmap detailing plans for a 150-megapixel medium format image sensor (55 x 41mm).
Details are sparse, but the CMOS sensor will be backside illuminated and produced in 2018. Presumably that means we won’t see it in a medium format body until 2019. A monochrome version of the sensor is also planned.

Sony also plans a slightly smaller 100-megapixel (44 x 33mm) backside illuminated sensor in the same time frame.
So the megapixel war? It’s still on.
