It’s not always enough to keep digital files backed up on external drives. They often need to be accessible, too. NETGEAR’s ReadyNAS keeps your stills and video secure in either a two or four drive RAID array and accessible from any Internet-connected device via Ethernet and wireless networking. Both the two bay (RN212) and four bay (RN214) configurations feature a quad-core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex processor and 2GB of built-in RAM memory to deliver real-time 1080p video transcoding so HD video can be streamed from the drives to devices on home networks or across the Internet. The processor also provides fast anti-virus scanning. The ReadyNAS drives feature a pair of Ethernet ports that can be combined in a Link Aggregation mode for faster transfer speeds over congested Wi-Fi networks. Using Link Aggregation, you’ll enjoy data throughput that’s 2X faster than a single Ethernet connection, though you’ll need a router that supports 802.11ad to take advantage of this up-tempo performance. Both drives offer read speeds of up to 200MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s, depending on your RAID configuration. Using NETGEAR’s free ReadyCLOUD app for iOS and Android devices, you can upload content from the road or share links to files stored on your drives. The drives support VPN, folder synchronization and Apple’s Time Machine. There are three USB 3.0 ports and one eSATA port. The 2-bay model supports a maximum capacity of 12TB, while the 4-bay drive offers up to 24TB worth of storage. Both accept 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA and SSD drives with hot-swapping capability.

PRICE: $329 (2-bay, diskless); $350 (4-bay, diskless)
